NFL Team Report - Los Angeles Rams
--The Rams were without running back Todd Gurley II on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals but newly signed C.J. Anderson made it a non-issue. Anderson was signed by the Rams last Wednesday, partially out of concern for Gurley's knee injury but also to provide depth after backup Justin Davis went down with a shoulder injury. Anderson, with just three practices under his belt, rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries to lead the Rams to a 31-9 win over the Cardinals. "If you watch the tape, that was nothing different than my game from what I've done plenty of times," Anderson said. "The big boys played really great up front. Obviously, I get nothing going if it wasn't for them. That's been my game since I've been in (the league) for six years. If you ever paid attention to any football with C.J. Anderson in it, you wouldn't be surprised at all." The performance was not a surprise to the Rams. "We felt like he was going to do something like that," Rams head coach Sean McVay said. "To say he was going to go for that many yards (maybe not), but we felt like he was going to have a good, productive day. He leveled runs off nice. He's a guy that has been a productive player really throughout his career, and we felt like some of the things we were going to be able to do were a good fit for his skill set. Clearly, he delivered in a big way. I think we were all pleased with it. Certainly, I don't think anyone was shocked by it though." --Defensive tackle Aaron Donald had three sacks on Sunday against the Cardinals to move to 19.5 on the season to set a new NFL record for sacks by a defensive tackle in a season. "It feels good," Donald said. "It's what you work for and grind for. Just to go out there and play the game and try to help your team to win it. In the way of doing that, you just have success. Any time you're rewarded and get to be a part of history, it's a special moment." Donald now sets his sights on the overall sack record for a season of 22.5, set by Michael Strahan 17 years ago. And he's got one game to do it on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. "I'm just going to play," he said. "They have a good offensive line. We have to still watch film and break down things. I'm happy about this one we did today, then we'll worry about that come Wednesday." BY THE NUMBERS: 46.2 -- Of defensive tackle Aaron Donald's 58.5 career sacks, 46.2 percent have come against NFC West opponents (27.0). Donald has sacked three different 49ers quarterbacks for a total of 7.0 sacks throughout his first five seasons.
