NFL Team Report - New York Jets
PLAYER NOTES --WR Quincy Enunwa did not practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury. He will likely miss his third straight game. --WR Jermaine Kearse did not practice Wednesday due to an Achilles injury. --DL Mike Pennel did not practice Wednesday due to a tooth issue. --LB Kevin Pierre-Louis missed practice Wednesday with a shoulder injury. --CB Trumaine Johnson missed practice due to what head coach Todd Bowles said was an in-house matter. Johnson did not disclose what happened but said he expects to practice Thursday and play Sunday. --CB Morris Claiborne did not practice Wednesday due to a shoulder and ankle injury. --K Jason Myers missed practice Wednesday due to a left hip injury. --LB Jordan Jenkins was limited in practice due to an ankle injury. PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: KR Andre Roberts. Special teams are one of the positive areas for the Jets and Roberts has enjoyed a productive season. He had a 99-yard kickoff return for a TD. In Week 1 at Detroit, Roberts had a punt return for a TD and he joined Leon Johnson as the only players in team history to achieve both feats. He also is the 16th player since the AFL-NFL merger to do both. Last week, Roberts finished with 203 kickoff return yards on four returns for an average of 50.4 yards. GAME PLAN: Based on the recent chemistry between the duo expect plenty of plays to be called for wide receiver Robby Anderson. In the last three games since quarterback Sam Darnold returned from a sprained right ankle, Anderson has 20 receptions for 312 yards and three touchdowns. The Jets will need the chemistry between the duo to continue especially since Quincy Enunwa missed practice Wednesday with an ankle injury while Jermaine Kearse was held out due to an Achilles injury.MATCHUPS TO WATCH: --Jets TE Chris Herndon vs. Patriots secondary. Herndon is emerging as a fourth-round steal with 494 yards and has been getting featured more in the offense recently. He had 82 yards on six catches last week and in the first meeting finished with seven catches and 57 yards. New England has struggled with defending tight ends most of the year. --Jets QB Sam Darnold vs. Patriots defense. Darnold did not face the Patriots in the first meeting and it will be interesting to see how he fares against them this week. Darnold has not been the interception-prone player he was before the sprained right foot and has shown an improved ability to roll around and out of the pocket to make the right play.
