NFL Team Report - Jacksonville Jaguars
PLAYER NOTES --RB Leonard Fournette was listed on the injury report Wednesday but had a full practice. He limped off the field after his one second-half carry and told head coach Doug Marrone he was fine, but they didn't put him back in. --K Josh Lambo, who was inactive for the Redskins game with a right groin injury, didn't practice Wednesday. He was replaced by veteran Kai Forbath, who signed last Friday. --WR DJ Chark Jr., who was inactive for the Redskins game, didn't practice Wednesday because of a quadriceps injury. --S Jarrod Wilson, who stepped in when Ronnie Harrison suffered a knee injury in the first period, didn't practice Wednesday for both foot and personal reasons. --T Jermey Parnell, who was inactive Sunday against the Redskins with a knee injury, didn't practice Wednesday. --S Ronnie Harrison was listed on the injury report with a knee injury, will go on the injured reserve list later in the week. PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: WR Dede Westbrook showed he can be a weapon on special teams when he returned a punt for a touchdown against the Redskins with just four seconds left in the first half. He caught the punt in the middle of the field at the 26-yard line, cut to his right and sprinted down the sideline for the score that gave the Jaguars a 10-3 lead at halftime. He also had another big play in the third quarter when he ran 20 yards on a jet sweep. With the offense struggling, Westbrook will try to ignite the team with some big plays against Miami. GAME PLAN: The Jaguars are supposed to be a power running team but they are having a problem getting their running game going. The Redskins used run blitzes against Leonard Fournette so they switched to rookie Dave Williams in the second half. It will be no surprise if they give Williams more carries to try to get some drives going against the Dolphins. On defense, they rebounded from the drubbing in Tennessee to hold the Redskins to 16 points, but it wasn't enough. So the emphasis for the defense against the Dolphins will be to create turnovers. They didn't get any against the Redskins but the offense lost a fumble and Cody Kessler threw an interception. The Jaguars can't win with an 0-2 turnover ratio.MATCHUPS TO WATCH --Jaguars WR Donte Moncrief vs. Dolphins CB Xavier Howard. Howard made the Pro Bowl with seven interceptions and he will be looking to pick off another one against the Jaguars anemic passing game. His problem may be getting many shots at an interception because the Jaguars want to run the ball. Moncrief leads the Jaguars with a 14.4 yards per catch average on 42 catches. --Dolphins WR Kenny Stills vs. Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey. Stills leads the Dolphins with 521 passing yards on 33 receptions for a 15.8 average per catch but Ramsey will likely have the edge in this matchup and it will be interesting to see how often quarterback Ryan Tannehill tests him.
