Michigan’s football program scored a commitment from a key in-state prospect on Tuesday afternoon.
Howell four-star defensive lineman Bobby Kanka announced his decision in a post on social media, choosing the Wolverines over 12 other reported offers, including Michigan State, Penn State and Tennessee.
“Michigan man,” he wrote. “#committed. #home.”
Kanka’s verbal pledge comes just days after attending the BBQ at the Big House, Michigan’s largest recruiting event of the year. The 6-foot-4, 255-pounder is ranked as the No. 313 overall prospect nationally and No. 4 in the state, according to the 247Sports Composite index.
The Wolverines extended an offer to Kanka in February 2022, and he has made multiple visits to Ann Arbor since.
He becomes Michigan’s third commit in the 2025 class, although there is uncertainty around one of them. Buford (Ga.) four-star linebacker Mantrez Walker tweeted on Monday night that his recruitment is open and he is not “100% shut down.” Since the tweet, Walker has announced offers from UNLV and Boston College while also lauding LSU and Miami in separate posts.
