CFB Notebook: UConn LB Thomas hospitalized

University of Connecticut linebacker Eli Thomas is in stable condition after he was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons. The school announced in a statement that Thomas was transported to the hospital on Wednesday. Aside from providing his condition, the university added that it will "not share additional details at this time." Thomas did not play in each of the Huskies' past two games, losses to Cincinnati and Memphis. He suffered a neck injury in a loss at Syracuse in Week 4. It is unclear if the neck injury was the reason for the junior linebacker's hospitalization. Thomas is in his first season with the Huskies. The 6-foot, 218-pounder registered 11 tackles in the first three games, including a season-high five tackles at Boise State in Week 2. --Appalachian State running back Jalin Moore is done for the season after suffering a devastating ankle injury in Tuesday's win at Arkansas State. Moore suffered a fracture and dislocation of his right ankle and will undergo surgery, the school announced on Friday. The recovery time for Moore is eight to 12 weeks, putting an end to the senior standout's career with the Mountaineers. He was hurt at the end of a 27-yard touchdown run in Tuesday's game. Moore entered this season as one of six running backs in the country to rush for more than 1,000 yards in each of the previous two seasons. The 5-foot-11, 205 pound Moore finished the season with 400 yards and six touchdowns on 63 carries. Moore led the Mountaineers to back-to-back Sun Belt Conference titles in the last two seasons. He rushed for a career-high 1,402 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore, earning conference offensive player of the year honors, and went for 1,037 yards and 12 scores last season. --Former Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant is planning to visit North Carolina this weekend. Bryant, who announced that he planned to transfer from Clemson last month after losing his starting job to Trevor Lawrence, has been in contact with the Tar Heels' coaching staff, 247sports.com reported. There is a high demand for Bryant, who will have one year of eligibility remaining. He also is scheduled to visit Arkansas on Oct. 20 and has drawn the interest of more than 15 Power Five programs, Rivals.com reported. Arkansas will mark the first official visit for Bryant, who started the first four games for Clemson this season but was splitting time with Lawrence. He will be making an unofficial visit to North Carolina. Because he will be a graduate transfer, Bryant will not have to sit out a season. He has one year of eligibility remaining. Bryant made 18 consecutive starts for the Tigers, posting a 16-2 record and guiding Clemson to the College Football Playoffs last year. In four games this season, Bryant completed 36 of 54 passes for 461 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He has also rushed for 130 yards and two scores. --Illinois sophomore safety Bennett Williams announced on social media that he has been dismissed from the football team. Williams, who was suspended for the first three games this season due to an unspecified violation of team rules, took full responsibility for his actions in a posting on his Twitter account. "A part of growing up is realizing that sometimes relationships don't work out," Williams wrote. "I'd like to thank the University of Illinois, coaches and staff for originally believing in me and giving me a chance. I'm proud of what I've accomplished here. ... "My biggest regret is letting down people I love the most, and those who have supported me throughout my journey. To them I say that I will strive to make you proud. I look forward to a bright future and finding the best place for me to grow as a player and a person." A university spokesman confirmed Williams is no longer with the team, multiple media outlets reported. Williams had a stellar freshman season for the Illini. He appeared in 11 games, making seven starts, and had a team-leading three interceptions. He also recorded 64 tackles, two pass breakups and one forced fumble. Following his suspension, the 6-foot, 205-pound Williams injured his hamstring in his return to the lineup against Penn State and did not play in last week's game again Rutgers. --LSU wide receiver Dee Anderson won't play on Saturday against No. 2 Georgia, head coach Ed Orgeron said. Orgeron told reporters only that Anderson "will not be available" for the No. 13 Tigers (5-1), who will be trying to rebound from a loss to Florida last weekend. No injury or other reason for his absence was given. Anderson, a 6-6, 229-yard junior, has 12 receptions for 154 yards this season for LSU, but has not scored a touchdown. With Anderson sidelined, 6-7, 232-pound wide receiver Stephen Sullivan is expected to get his first start after making 13 catches for 167 yards in six games this season. Sullivan caught a 40-yard "Hail Mary" touchdown pass right before halftime in a game against Southeastern Louisiana earlier this season. The Tigers also moved Jontre Kirklin, a former all-state quarterback in Louisiana, from defensive back to wide receiver this week. LSU redshirt freshman nose tackle Tyler Shelvin also will be unavailable for the Georgia game. Shelvin did not travel to last weekend's game against Florida at Gainesville, Fla., and the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported that "Shelvin violated team rules but was not suspended."
