CFB notebook: Former ASU CB arrested for terrorist threat
Former Arizona State Sun Devils defensive back Robbie Robinson (6) reacts with Armand Perry (13) California in a 2016 game at Sun Devil Stadium.
Former Arizona State cornerback Robbie Robinson was arrested Friday on charges of making a terroristic threat, disruption of an educational institution and possession of marijuana, ESPN reported Sunday after contacting a school police spokesperson.
Robinson, 20, allegedly posted on social media that he wanted to "spray the stadium up."
ASU police spokeswoman Katy Harris mentioned in an e-mail to ESPN that Robinson's threats of violence against members of the school's athletics community became known at noon Friday. Robinson was arrested at approximately 8 p.m. at an off-campus location with the assistance of Tempe, Ariz., police.
On the Twitter account believed to belong to Robinson, a post indicated he desired the use of a gun to "give me liberty."
"Give me 25. Give me life," the post said. "Give me liberty or give me death. ... I'm not staying quiet. I'm hurt."
Robinson, a freshman in 2016 who is no longer enrolled at ASU, remained in Maricopa County jail on Sunday, according to online records, and is being held on $50,000 bond.
--Tennessee All-American offensive lineman Trey Smith will miss at least some of spring practice due to a medical issue, GoVols247 reported, citing a source.
VolQuest.com later reported that Smith will miss all of spring practice but will return in time for the 2018 season.
Tennessee and Smith's family have not commented on his health or condition.
Smith, 6-foot-6 and 320 pounds, started all 12 games last year as a freshman and is considered the team's best lineman.
--Former Michigan wide receiver Drake Harris announced that he is transferring to Western Michigan for his final year of college eligibility.
Harris previously announced last November that he was intending to leave the program. He plans to enroll at Western Michigan as a graduate transfer so he will be allowed to play immediately.
"I'm happy to announce that I will be playing my last year of eligibility at Western Michigan University, while pursuing a masters degree," Harris posted on Instagram. "Excited to get working with Coach (Tim) Lester and the rest of the coaching staff for a great year next season. Go Broncos."
In 25 games with Michigan, Harris caught nine passes for 60 yards.
--Greg Adkins, a former player and coach at Marshall, was named the Thundering Herd's offensive line coach, the school announced.
Last season, Adkins served as the offensive line coach, run game coordinator and interim offensive coordinator at Charlotte. He spent the previous two seasons as offensive line coach at Oklahoma State.
Adkins coached for five seasons at Marshall from 1991-95, helping the school advance to the Division I-AA championship game four times, including a national title in 1992.
--Purdue completed its coaching staff by hiring a 10th assistant: Mark Tommerdahl, who will be the special teams and tight ends coach.
Tommerdahl arrives at Purdue from Utah State, where he worked as the special teams coordinator and running backs coach in 2017.
In 34 years of college coaching, the well-traveled Tommerdahl has also made stops at Cal, Louisiana Tech, Lousiana Monroe, Texas A&M, Alabama, TCU, New Mexico, Minnesota and Wyoming.
