IOWA CITY — Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara is listed as Iowa’s first-team quarterback on the depth chart released Monday in what is another positive sign as he recovers from an Aug. 12 muscle injury.
McNamara’s inclusion on the depth chart is not a surprise after head coach Kirk Ferentz said last week he was “really optimistic” about his status. Iowa also posted a photo on social media of McNamara on the field with the rest of the offense.
On the other side of the ball, Yahya Black has the first-team spot alongside Logan Lee after last week’s news that Noah Shannon is facing a one-year suspension following the NCAA’s sports wagering investigation. Aaron Graves, the former MaxPreps Male National Athlete of the Year, is behind Black.
Here are some other notes from the depth chart:
Others who were out for the Aug. 12 open practice but are back on the depth chart include defensive back Cooper DeJean, wide receiver Nico Ragaini (first team), offensive lineman Daijon Parker (second team) and quarterback Joe Labas (third team).
The first-team offensive line, from left to right, is Mason Richman, Nick DeJong, Logan Jones, Connor Colby and Gennings Dunker. Parker and fellow newcomer Rusty Feth have second-team roles for now.
Jay Higgins is the first-team middle linebacker, and Nick Jackson is the first-team weakside linebacker. Kyler Fisher is the first-teamer at the Leo spot.
