Myles Murphy

OVERVIEW

Notes: Murphy had no full workout at the Indy Combine and no Pro Day workout because of hamstring issues.  

Summary: From Hillgrove High in Georgia, which has turned out NFL stars Bradley Chubb, Kenyan Drake and Evan Engram, Murphy was a top-five recruit. He validated that ranking in 2020, earning Freshman All-American notice with a team-high 12 tackles for loss (with four sacks among 41 total stops in 12 games, six starts). He improved through the next two seasons and finished with 27 starts (38 total games), 37 tackles for a loss, 17.5 sacks, six forced fumbles. His game starts with a blink-quick get-off (1.59 in ten yards), and he has the footwork and arm strength to keep blockers guessing as to what comes next. A bad hamstring kept him from running and jumping at the combine and his Pro Day, although he did manage 25 reps on the bench (225 pounds) with only one foot on the ground. Ouch.

FRANKLY: Murphy has experience all over Clemson's multiple defensive fronts, but will fit best as a base end in a four-man line in the NFL. A power rusher who must add finesse to his game, Murphy can probably start in his rookie season. Worth a late first or early second-round pick.
