Jalen Milroe

QB, ATH · Alabama

OVERVIEW

Milroe's NFL potential hinges on his ability to harness his raw talents and refine his quarterback skills. His elite athleticism and arm strength will intrigue NFL scouts, but he needs to show significant improvement in his mechanics and decision-making. Milroe could thrive in a system that utilizes his mobility and allows for designed runs and rollouts. NFL teams will be watching closely to see how Milroe develops under new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, known for his quarterback-friendly offense. If Milroe can make strides in his accuracy and field reading while maintaining his big-play ability, he could elevate his draft stock significantly. His ceiling is that of a dynamic dual-threat NFL starter, but he'll need time and coaching to reach that potential. Scheme fits that emphasize movement and play-action could maximize Milroe's strengths early in his NFL career. His ability to extend plays and create off-script will be valuable, but he must prove he can consistently win from the pocket to become a starting-level pro QB.

 BACKGROUND

Milroe became Alabama's starting quarterback in 2023, overcoming early-season adversity to lead the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoff. The Texas native showed flashes of brilliance, accounting for 35 total touchdowns while displaying elite dual-threat ability. Milroe's 2,834 passing yards and 531 rushing yards highlighted his versatility in Alabama's offense. A consensus four-star recruit out of Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas, Milroe chose Alabama over in-state powerhouses Texas and Texas A&M. After redshirting in 2021 and serving as Bryce Young's backup in 2022, Milroe seized the starting role in 2023. He earned second-team All-SEC honors and was a finalist for the Manning Award, given to the nation's top quarterback. Milroe's breakout performance came against LSU, where he set an Alabama record with four rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. He followed that with a six-touchdown outing against Kentucky, becoming the first Alabama QB to throw for three and rush for three scores in a single game. Milroe's late-game heroics in the Iron Bowl, connecting with Isaiah Bond on a 31-yard touchdown on 4th-and-goal, solidified his place in Crimson Tide lore.

  PROS

Elite athleticism with explosive speed and agility, making him a constant threat as a runner and scrambler Possesses a strong arm capable of making all NFL throws, with the ability to generate velocity from various platforms Displays creativity and playmaking instincts when plays break down, keeping his eyes downfield Shows flashes of advanced QB skills, using pump fakes and eye manipulation to move defenders Tough competitor who embraces contact and isn't afraid to sacrifice his body for crucial gains Demonstrates some serious poise under pressure, able to deliver in clutch situations. He was simply legendary in the Iron Bowl Exhibits leadership qualities and resilience, bouncing back from early-season benching to lead team to CFP Has experience in a pro-style offense, preparing him for NFL concepts and expectations

 CONS

Inconsistent mechanics, particularly in lower body, leading to erratic accuracy and ball placement issues Needs to improve field vision and progression reading, often missing open receivers or locking onto primary target Decision-making can be questionable at times, forcing throws into tight windows or holding the ball too long Footwork in the pocket requires refinement, sometimes causing him to be late on throws or miss timing with receivers Must develop better touch on deep balls and improve overall anticipation on throws to all levels of the field Needs to speed his processing - has one of the slowest release speeds of all the top QB prospects
